Story:

The Hobson Cup is an annual alumni event run by the University of Bristol Tennis Club. Past and present members of UBTC face off in a fun-filled afternoon of tennis, netball and football.

The Hobson Cup was started in memory of Jack Hobson, a past UBTC member, BUCS player and student coach. Jack's contribution to UBTC during his time as a student was outstanding. Jack passed away after he graduated.

This year we are raising money for Healthy Minds, a mental health programme run by the University of Bristol sport department. Healthy Minds aims to improve the wellbeing of Bristol students affected by ill mental health through a supported, monitored and mentored programme of physical activity. 90% of participants that have completed the programme feel that Healthy Minds had a positive effect on their mental health/wellbeing goals.

Hobson Cup 2023 Update

What a great day we had this year at Hobson Cup 2023. Coming together as current students and alumni, in memory of Jack Hobson, we have currently raised £230 for Healthy Minds. Our JustGiving page is still open with the link above if you would like to donate to a good cause.

Out of our 3 sports, Tennis, Netball and Football, the alumni won all 3 this year making it a clean sweep! Some great performances across the alumni secured the tennis. Netball was more convincing with the alumni not losing a match. Football was the closest with the game ending 4-4 and the alumni clinching it 5-4 on penalties. In the end, a great day was had by all and for an even better cause. Here is our JustGiving page: Donate
